Save the date! Preschool preregistration for the 2025-26 school year begins online at 6:00 p.m. January 28, 2025. Kindergarten-12th grade registration for the 2025-26 school year begins online March 3, 2025. 

Below you’ll find information for registering your Preschool student(s), your Kindergarten-12th grade student(s) (returning students and new students), and our year-round elementary program located at Karen Acres Elementary. As a reminder, all families with returning students must register students for the upcoming school year. We’re looking forward to welcoming your child(ren) and family for the 2025-26 school year!

Preschool Preregistration Opens at 6:00 p.m. January 28, 2025
Preschool Preregistration will begin online at 6:00 p.m. on January 28, 2025. Before winter break, we’ll update this section with a link to detailed Preschool Preregistration Information for the 2025–2026 school year. 

For those needing assistance with the online preschool preregistration process, we will be hosting an in-person pre-registration event at Valerius Elementary (3305 92nd Street) on January 28, 2025. Families may arrive at 5:30 p.m. in order to prepare for the online preregistration process which will open at 6:00 p.m. During the event, we’ll have Chromebooks available for use by parents/guardians to preregister your preschool student(s). Translators will be available to assist parents/guardians. The in-person event will conclude at 8:00 p.m. 

Please Note: Preschool Preregistration will not only preregister your student, but will play a key role in determining facility and programming needs for the 2025–2026 school year. Preregistering your student does not guarantee your student a spot in the Urbandale Preschool Program. Once all facility and programming decisions are confirmed, you will be contacted regarding your acceptance into the Urbandale Preschool Program by April 11, 2025. Thank you!

Returning Students
If your student(s) will be returning next school year, let us know by registering for the 2025-2026 school year! All families with returning students must register students for the upcoming school year. Kindergarten through 12th grade student registration for the 2025–2026 school year will begin online March 3, 2025. You’ll find detailed instructions for registering your returning student(s) by visiting: urbandaleschools.com/register Thank you!

New Students
UCSD is comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and an alternative high school program. We offer a comprehensive Preschool Program and Adventuretime Before/After School Childcare Program. Families with elementary students are given the choice to either attend their neighborhood elementary school or attend our year-round elementary school (see below). If your student(s) is new to UCSD, click here for specific information about registering your new student. We’re looking forward to meeting you! 

Year-Round Learning—Year-Round Fun! Learn More About Our Year-Round Elementary School
One of the many things that makes Urbandale unique is the year-round elementary school found right in the heart of UCSD. Any family living within UCSD boundaries, or living outside UCSD boundaries who apply for open enrollment, can choose to attend our year-round school located at Karen Acres Elementary. Bus transportation is available anywhere within district boundaries outside of the Karen Acres walk zone.

“Year-round” means we’re able to provide even more learning opportunities throughout the year, but it does not mean that students go to school every day of the year. Karen Acres is in session the same number of days as elementary schools on the traditional year calendar. The schedule provides more frequent breaks throughout the year which gives everyone the chance to reset and refresh. On most breaks, Karen Acres offers optional, theme-based programming for a small fee. This provides families additional childcare and gives kids fun, hands-on learning experiences that include fantastic field trips.
