Music In Our Schools Month
Created on February 28th, 2024For nearly 40 years, March has been designated as Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM). Music has a lasting positive impact in everyone’s lives, especially our students. Therefore, the education and cultivation of music in our youngest members of society is important. Get involved in this month-long celebration with some of the activities and ideas provided by the National Association of Music Education.
Every day, in classrooms across our school district, our music educators dedicate themselves to reaching their students with life-changing musical experiences. Parents, administrators, and the wider community often only see the wonderful results of music performances; however, we miss the months of practice and rehearsals and more importantly the learning process that takes place to make it all happen.
I encourage members in our community to acknowledge and celebrate music education as an essential part of every student’s educational journey! Get to know who your child’s music educator or director is below. #MIOSM #MusicIsMe #UBelongHere

We honor and remember Matthew Harper…
Matthew Harper served as a Chorus/Music Teacher at Urbandale Middle School for the last year and a half before unexpectedly passing away on February 8, 2024. Mr. Harper was full of joy, kindness, and positive energy. He made you happy just by being around him! Mr. Harper is dearly missed by his staff, students, and colleagues across the district. Our thoughts continue to be with the Harper family. Thank you for your continued care and support for each other.
