Retention Request Form

House File 2618, passed in May 2024, provides parents/guardians of students in grades K-6 the opportunity to request retention in the current grade level for the next school year if the student is not proficient in literacy. Proficiency is determined using the following State of Iowa approved measures:

K-3 Literacy Status: If a student has an existing ELI “Persistently At-Risk” status following two consecutive below-benchmark scores on a FAST Screener, they are considered “not reading proficiently.” These students are not reading proficiently and require additional support.

ISASP Results for Grades 4-6: If a student in grades 4-6 is “not yet proficient” in English Language Arts on the ISASP assessment, they are also considered “not reading proficiently.”
