Women’s History Month
Created on March 1st, 2024Women’s History Month is a celebration of the contributions women have made to culture, society, and history within the United States and around the world. Since 1987, it has been observed annually during the month of March in the United States. It is traditionally a month dedicated to highlighting the often overlooked contributions of women to United States history. From science to suffrage, activism to art, sports to politics and beyond, women have done some amazing things.
Women have always been part of school districts, but it hasn’t always been an easy road. The very first female superintendent of a City School District was Phebe Sudlow in Davenport, IA in 1874. She then had to fight to receive the same salary the school district paid men. (She won!) Sudlow paved the way for superintendent’s like our very own, Dr. Rosalie Daca.
Throughout the month of March, be sure to reach out to the women in your life who have made an impact on you. We are all stronger for the insight, support, wisdom, and leadership of the outstanding women in our school district. #WomensHistoryMonth #UBelongHere #grateful4U
